Our offense is one of the worst nationally; we rank 130th in Total Offense, 129th in Passing Offense, and 118th in Scoring Offense out of 134 Division I Football Teams; we rank 15th in the Big Ten in 3rd down conversions, and 15th in First Downs. Our red zone offense and rushing offense has been decent, but we must get playmakers on offense if we are to become a factor in the Big Ten in 2025.

Comments: Davis Warren has 6 starts with a rating of 114.72; he is 90 of 146 for 5 TDs, 6 interceptions plus 4 sacks, and ran 13 times for -10 yards after 53 yards in sacks are deducted. Alex Orji has 50 carries for 228 net yards, and 24 of 46 for 149 yards and 3 TDs with 3 starts; his rating is 98.48. Jack Tuttle was 30 of 50 for 306 yards and a TD, 2 interceptions plus 2 fumble turnovers, and 5 sacks give him 15 carries for a net of 7 yards ; his quarterback rating was 110.01 with one start, and he retired due to concussion on October 28. Behind the Uniform: Alex Orji Our quarterbacks are ranked last in the Big Ten in quarterback rating with a combined 112.42, 18th of 18 Teams; they have combined for the fewest passing yards with an average of 128 per game. Our offense is ranked 16th of 18 teams in total yards; the only two teams ranked lower in offense are UCLA and Northwestern. Jayden Denegal could be another option, but hasn't played; one would have to believe he is strongly considering entering the transfer portal. Jadyn Davis will redshirt; he did travel to Washington. Anthony Arnou is a new transfer. Carter Smith has decommitted for 2025! Will Michigan land Bryce Underwood, Malik Washington or Mason Heintschel? Brady Hart has pledged for 2026!

Overall, one has to be pleased with our defensive line after 10 games; it is a solid group with good reserves, and it puts pressure on offenses while being excellent against stopping the running game.

The weakest part of our defense is our linebacking; our tackling is far from solid, and they are also weak in coverage. Our linebackers do not fill gaps as needed. It is easy to see why our opponents use draw plays, and short passes since we are such a poor tackling team in space. We also lack depth.

Brandyn Hillman has played in 9 games with 13 tackles, 0.5 for loss plus a pass break up; he was injured in the MSU game, and didn't play against Oregon. Hillman can really pack a punch when he hits you. Mason Curtis has played on special teams and Safety in the last 6 games; he has 6 tackles, one for loss. Kody Jones has played in 7 games on special teams. Jaden Smith asked to be released from his Letter of Intent on February 11, and he transferred to Kentucky.

Overall, this group has been good in coverage with cornerbacks, Johnson, Hall, and Hill; however, we are weak in coverage at Safety and Nickel. The whole group had a bad game against Washington with no pass break ups, and two TDs thrown on them. They have been good overall in run support especially Captain Paige; however, they miss a lot of open field tackles.

Our pass defense is pathetic; what a difference between last season and this season. Steven Clinksdale would not allow such poor coverage. Lamar Morgan has not done a good job coaching this group, and it shows on game day.

CommentsTommy Doman has 45 punts for a 42.18 yard average with 14 downed inside the 20, and 21 fair catches. Our punt return coverage really tanked in the second half against Minnesota allowing two returns of 20+ and 60 yards, and the fake punt conversion by Illinois completely fooled us; we were not prepared for that, and it cost us the game. Doman's 35 yard punt late in the 4th quarter, and a 22 yard return setting the Hoosiers up at our 39 yard line cost us the game.
