Comments: Devin Gardner completed 75 of 126 for 1219 yards, 11 TDs, 6 interceptions, 3 fumbles, 11 sacks. Gardner carried 47 times for 101 yards and 7 TDs after 11 sacks for 92 yards were deducted. Denard Robinson had 177 rushes for 1266 yards, 7 TDs, and completed 89 of 167 passes for 1319 yards, 9 TDs and 9 interceptions (+0) and 12 overall turnovers. He set a NCAA Record for rushing for quarterbacks with 4495 yards which is #2 rusher in Michigan Football History behind Mike Hart's 5040, and is one of only 8 quarterbacks in NCAA Football History that has both thrown and run for 40 TDs each. He finished his career with 10,776 yards in total offense, 6th in Big Ten Football History. Russell Bellomy was not prepared enough by our coaches to replace him. He was 4 of 21 for 46 yards and 4 interceptions; he has run 12 times for 16 yards after two sacks and a fumble in the red zone. Our quarterback position had 27 turnovers in 13 games. Comments: Fitzgerald Toussaint had 514 yards in 130 carries, 5 TDs and 6 receptions for 62 yards and another TD; he broke his ankle against Iowa. Vincent Smith, 160 lbs., gained 94 yards in 38 carries for 2 TDs plus another 74 yards on 10 receptions for another TD; he also lost 2 fumbles. Vincent Smith, the Artist. Justice Hayes had 18 carries for 83 yards and a TD. Thomas Rawls had 242 yards on 57 carries for 4 TDs, but he didn't play in the Outback Bowl. Dennis Norfleet took his first carry for 14 yards, but his second for -1. Toussaint hit with a DUI in Saline. Comments: No rushing carries and one reception for the fullback position in 13 games. Stephon Hopkins was the starter, but had no carries or receptions; he left the team. Joey Kerridge started a few games, and caught a 12 yard pass against Nebraska. Newcomer Sione Houma made all travel teams and participated on special teams; he had 2 tackles.

Comments: Roy Roundtree had 31 catches for 580 yards, and 3 TDs. Joe Reynolds had 3 catches for 22 yards. Jerald Robinson had 5 catches for 69 yards, but left the team. Devin Gardner had 16 receptions for 266 yards and 4 TDs. Roundtree is out 2 weeks after arthroscopic knee surgery. Amarah Darboh is playing on kickoff team with 5 tackles. Darboh and Chesson Stand Out in Bowl Practice Ricardo Miller also left the team. Darboh provides shocking catches on first day. Robinson Pleads Guilty. Comments: Jeremy Gallon had 49 catches for 829 yards and 4 TDs; he was our leading receiver. Drew Dileo had 20 catches for 331 yards, and 2 TDs; he put us in position to score the winning field goal against MSU with time expiring. Jeremy Jackson had 4 catches for 31 yards. Jehu Chesson redshirted. Chesson wins track championships. Jaron Dukes, Da'Mario Jones and Csonte York pledged for 2013.

Overall, our passing game was weak. We ranked 95th nationally and 6th in the Big Ten. We averaged 199 yards per game on 13 receptions per game. Our receivers get little separation from backs on patterns. Our clock management was horrid! Poor play calling and clock management were specifically a weakness in coaching with Al Borgess. Why not give Fred Jackson a chance to call the plays in 2013?

Comments: Mike Kwiatkowski had 8 starts, Devin Funchess had 4. Devin Funchess had 15 catches for 234 yards and 5 TDs. Brandon Moore started against Alabama, but went down with a knee injury and finally returned against Ilinois. Mike Kwiatkowski had 4 receptions for 37 yards, and is a better blocker than the rest so he started. A.J. Williams also played in all games because of his blocking skills. Dylan Esterline caught a 7 yard pass against Illinois. Offensive Coordinator Borgess doesn't think we are very deep at this position. From Student Section to Starter. Comments: Mike Schofield started all games, and had a tackle on an interception against Northwestern. Erik Gunderson backed him up. Freshmen working at Backup Offensive Tackle. Ben Braden and Walk-on Dan Gibbs redshirted; Braden made all the travel teams.

Comments: J.T. Floyd had 48 tackles, 1 for loss, and 5 pass break ups; however, he was suspended and didn't play in the Outback Bowl. Blake Countess injured his knee after the first defensive series against Alabama, and never returned; he redshirted with ACL surgery. Courtney Avery had 18 tackles at the Nickel position, 1.5 for loss. Terrence Richardson also saw action so his redshirt was "burned." We have the pledges of Dymonte Thomas, Ross Douglas, Delano Hill, Channing Stribling and Jourdan Lewis for 2013.

Comments: Ramon Taylor had 43 tackles, 2 interceptions including a 63 yard TD plus recovered a fumble and a pass break up. Steve Wilson does cancer research Steve Wilson moved from quarterback to be the backup along with Delonte Hollowell; Wilson had 2 tackles, and Hollowell had 2 tackles plus a fumble recovery on kickoff team. Comments: Captain Jordan Kovacs had 68 tackles, 5 for loss, 2 sacks, 2 pass break ups and an interception; however, he was slowed with a right knee injury. Josh Furman was the backup; he had 2 tackles, and another 6 on special teams. Marvin Robinson had 4 tackles, and a fumble recovery plus another 5 tackles on kickoffs. Floyd Simmons saw action on special teams, and had 8 tackles plus a 4 yard fake punt run in the Outback Bowl. Freshman Allen Gant redshirted.

Comments: Thomas Gordon had 78 tackles, 4 for loss, a sack, 2 interceptions, one in the red zone, one on a punt return, 2 pass break ups and forced a fumble. Jarrod Wilson was the backup, and had 4 tackles, and at least 3 dumb penalties. Wilson also had 4 tackles on the kickoff team. Jeremy Clark redshirted.

It was unfortunate that Countess went down with a season ending injury. Thomas Gordon and Ramon Taylor had two intereptions each, and Gordon led the backfield in tackles. Jordan Kovacs was slowed with a right knee injury. Our pass defense was 2nd in the Big Ten to Nebraska, and 2nd nationally; however, our pass efficiency defense was 8th in the Big Ten and 35th nationally. The move of Thomas Gordon to Nickel against South Carolina was a disaster.

Overall Defensive Summary

Jake Ryan was our best defensive player and leading tackler, and made 2nd Team All-Big Ten as a Sophomore. Blake Countess would also have probably also, but was injured.

Overall, our field goal, snapping and extra point kicking was great; however, special teams was mediocre to poor in every other category and as a group.

Comments: Matt Wile kicked off 77 times for a 60.5 yard average, one out of bounds and 28 Touchbacks. Seth Broekhuisen got a 65 yard kickoff against Massachusetts. Brendan Gibbons converted on all extra points, and has hit 16 of 18 in field goal attempts. Wile hit his first field goal against MSU and a 52 yarder in the Outback Bowl so we were 18 of 21 overall. Gibbons scored 95 points to lead the team in scoring. Our Kickoff coverage ranked 90th nationally and 11th in the Big Ten. Comments: Matt Wile had 12 punts for 35.9 yard average, 9 inside the 20, 1 touchback and 5 fair catches. Our net punting ranked 72nd nationally and 7th in the Big Ten. Will Hagerup punted 33 times for a 45 yard average including a 62 yarder; he had 4 touchbacks, 4 fair catches and 3 downed inside the 20. Hagerup blames punting struggles on 4 game suspension

Comments: Jeremy Gallon had 12 for 66 yards. He was very disappointing for a 3rd year starter. Dennis Norfleet performed well with 2 returns for 53 yards. Drew Dileo has 2 returns for 22 yards. Our Punt return team ranked 64th nationally and 6th in the Big Ten.

Comments: Dennis Norfleet had 827 yards in 35 returns with his longest being 38 yards; he averaged 23.6 yards per return.
