Observations on the loss to Alabama, 14-41

Alabama took control early getting out to a 21-0 first quarter lead, and building it to 31-0 until Michigan scored late in the 2nd quarter. Alabama converted 4 red zones into 24 points, and scored 14 points off 2 Michigan turnovers in the first half. Michigan scored 7 points in one red zone trip at the end of the first half set up after a 71 yard pass play to the one foot line. The Wolverines were too far behind early to ever get back into the game.

Offense couldn't get a running game going, and ended up netting only 68 yards on 29 attempts. Denard Robinson was 11 of 26 for 200 yards and a TD, but threw two interceptions that resulted in 14 points for the Crimson Tide. Jeremy Gallon caught 4 passes for 107 yards. Devin Gardner caught a 44 yard TD pass. We had 268 yards of net offense, 11 first downs and were 3 of 13 on 3rd and 4th down conversions.

Defense allowed Alabama 431 yards in total offense, 232 on the ground with 20 first downs. T.J. Yeldon ran for 111 yards on 11 carries for a TD. Eddie Lacy ran for 35 yards and another TD. Jalston Fowler ran for another 67 yards. A.J. McCarron was 11 of 21 for 199 yards and 2 TDs. DeAndrew White caught a 51 yard TD. Michael Williams caught a 2 yard TD. We only forced Alabama to punt four times, had two sacks and forced one fumble. Alabama possessed the ball 3 minutes more resulting in 7 more offensive plays. Thomas Gordon led the defense with 9 tackles, many of them were TD saving and he forced a fumble. Jordan Kovacs and Desmond Morgan had 8 tackles each. Alabama was 3 of 10 on 3rd down conversions.

Will Hagerup punted 6 times for a 51.3 yard average, but Christion Jones ran 4 back for 58 yards. Dennis Norfleet ran back 8 kickoffs for a 21.8 yard average. Christion Jones has 4 punt returns for 58 yards. Alabama converted two of three field goal attempts including a 51 yarder.

Blake Countess, Brandon Moore, Taylor Lewan and Denard Robinson all left the game at some point with injuries; hopefully, they will all be o.k. We were physically whipped on both sides of the ball. 24 players on offense, 27 played on defense, and 11 on special teams so 62 of the 70 players on the travel team participated in the game at Dallas.
