Observations on the win over Michigan State, 49-0

Michigan converted five red zones for 28 points; Michigan State had no red zones. The Wolverines scored two TDs off two Spartan turnovers.

Offense racked up 477 total yards and 28 first downs as J.J. McCarthy hit 21 of 27 passes for 287 yards and 4 TDs, and ran 3 times for 9 yards; the Wolverines were 7 of 11 on 3rd down conversions. Blake Corum ran 15 times for 59 yards and a TD, and caught 2 passes for 17 yards. A.J. Barner caught 8 passes for 99 yards and a TD. Colston Loveland caught 4 passes for 79 yards and 2 TDs. Donovan Edwards ran 6 times for 14 yards, and caught 3 passes for 23 yards. Roman Wilson caught 2 passes for 50 yards and a TD. Cornelius Johnson caught 3 passes for 26 yards. Semaj Morgan caught 3 passes for 39 yards. Alex Orji ran 5 times for 27 yards and a TD. Offense completedly dominated time of possession by almost 13 minutes that resulted in 12 more offensive plays; they only gained 120 yards in net rushing, but they didn't really need to run with 357 yards in the air. Malik Spencer and Aaron Brule had 11 tackles each to lead the Spartan defense.

Defense held Michigan State to 10 first downs, and 190 total yards with four "3 and outs." Katin Houser was 12 of 22 for 101 yards with a 72 yard interception for a TD by Mike Sainristil. Junior Colson led the Wolverine defense with 11 tackles. Michigan had 3 sacks, 7 pass break ups, 2 interceptions, and 2 quarterback hits as the Spartans were forced into 7 punts in their 58 offensive plays. Michigan State was 6 of 19 in 3rd and 4th down conversions, and they took 11 penalties for 102 yards which gave the Wolverines four first downs.

Tommy Doman punted four times with two downed inside the 20; he also had 8 kickoffs with 6 touchbacks. Semaj Morgan began the game with a poor decision to run back the opening kickoff 3 yards deep in the end zone, and ran it to the 16. Tyler Morris had 2 punt returns for 3 yards.
