Observations on the win over Connecticut, 59-0

Offense gained 465 total yards with 182 on the ground; they had 26 first downs with 9 of 13 in 3rd down conversions, and were 8 of 8 in the red zone for 52 points. J.J. McCarthy hit 15 of 18 passes for 214 yards; he ran 3 times for 7 yard after a sack was deducted. Blake Corum ran 12 times for 71 yards and 5 TDs. Ronnie Bell had 7 receptions for 96 yards. A.J. Henning had 4 receptions for 37 yards plus a carry for 3 yards. Roman Wilson caught 3 passes for 64 yards. Luke Schoonmaker caught a 31 yard pass. Michigan was able to play 7 quarterback, 6 running back, 11 wide receiver, 8 tight end, and 10 offensive line reserves in the onslaught with Alex Orji running for a 10 yard TD, and Alan Bowman connecting with Leon Franklin for a 20 yard TD to end the scoring. Michigan dominated the time of possession by 8 minutes which led to running 16 more offensive plays. The reserve quarterbacks were 6 of 7 for 59 yards with a TD. Danny Hughes had 5 carries for 31 yards, and Isaiah Gash ran 4 times for 24 yards. Jackson Mitchell led the Huskies with 10 tackles. Donovan Edwards and Karsen Barnhart didn't dress for the game, and neither Trevor Keegan nor Cade McNamara played in the second half due to injuries.

Defense was solid! They forced the Huskies into only 6 first downs with 110 total yards, and 7 "3 and outs;" Connecticut was 2 of 16in 3rd and 4th down conversions. Zion Turner was 4 of 16 for 17 yards; he ran 7 times for 42 yards. Nate Carter ran 6 times for 21 yards. Kris Jenkins and Junior Colson led the defense with 5 tackles each; Braiden McGregor and Michael Barrett had 4 tackles each. McGregor got his first start as a Wolverine today over Mike Morris at Edge. The defense had two quarterback hits by Jaylen Harrell and Mike Sainristil, and a fumble recovery by George Rooks.

Special Teams were also special! A.J. Henning had 3 punt returns for 65 yards including a 61 yard TD. Kalel Mullings had a 22 yard return of a blocked punt by Caden Kolesar of former Wolverine, George Caratan. Roman Wilson started the game with a 26 yard kickoff return. Brad Robbins punted twice for a 57.5 yard average with both downed inside the 20. In the second half, Tommy Doman punted once for 41 yards; it was downed inside the 20. D.J. Turner had a 3 yard punt return, and Jake Thaw had a couple of fair catches.
