Observations on the first half with Purdue, 14-13!
Michigan scores only 7 points in two red zones visits while Purdue comes up with 3 points in one red zone. Each team converts long touchdowns off the other's turnover for 7 points each. Michigan gets its first defensive score of the season
Offense looks horrible! The offense turns the ball over twice, and puts the ball has one interception and two fumbles in 6 first half possessions. Robinson was 10 of 15 for 142 yards, 1 TD, but one costly 94 yard interception for a TD and one sack. He ran for only 22 yards in 9 carries. Vincent Smith gains 47 yards in 7 carries. Roy Roundtree has 5 catches for 65 yards and a TD. We have 227 yards in total offense, 12 first downs and were 3 of 7 in 3rd and 4th down conversions. Dave Molk has been guilty twice of holding Kewan Short, once in the red zone.
Defense looks great, and has its best game of the season! We held the Purdue offense in 6 of 7 first half possessions to one red zone and 6 points. Their defense scored 10 of their 13 points. Obi Ezeh, Kenny Demens and Courtney Avery had 4 tackles each, Craig Roh and Ray Vinopal had 3 tackles each. Roh forced a fumble and Cam Gordon rambled 72 yards with a fumble recovery for a TD. Purdue's 3 quarterback look backfires on them. Purdue only has 127 net yards in total offense, 6 first downs and are 2 of 10 in 3rd and 4th down conversions.
Special Teams look bad. Jeremy Gallon lets a Purdue punt roll down to the 2 yard line that was clearly playable. He has one 19 yard kickoff return. Will Hagerup line drives a 44 yard punt while Denard Robinson's pooch punt was 11 yards. We have 3 kickoffs with one touchback. Purdue hits both field goal attempts, and nails us at the two on a punt. Purdue's poor special teams outdo ours. We reverse a commanding Purdue 8 minute time of possession advantage after the first quarter, but gain no points in the 2nd quarter while they get 10 points off only 4 minutes of 2nd quarter time of possession.
Dorenstein started, but Moundros is in for Mouton and Ezeh started as well.
Just like in the last two Purdue games, we have blown a two score lead. Hopefully, we'll score on the first drive of the second half to take control of this game.
