Observations on the first half with Penn State, 10-21!
Penn State gains three red zones, and convert all three into touchdowns for 21 points. Our paltry offense couldn't manage to gain one first half red zone. Penn State gains 14 points off 3 Wolverine turnovers by Gardner.
Offense is disgusting! We gained 144 yards in 35 plays, 7 first downs, and were 2 of 9 in 3rd down conversions. We have a 9 minute time of possession advantage with nothing to show for it except turnovers. We have gained only 46 yards on the ground, Fitz Touissaint has 11 carries for 6 yards. Devin Gardner is 6 of 12 for 88 yards, 2 interceptions and a fumble for 3 turnovers. We have been forced into 4 punts and 3 turnovers.
Defense has also been pathetic! James Ross has 5 tackles, and Quinton Washington has 4. The freshman quarterback, Christian Hackenburg, has 9 of 15 for 111 yards and 3 TDs. He was intercepted on their first possession by Jarrod Wilson. They have 149 offensive yards, 7 first downs and are 3 of 7 in 3rd down conversions.
Special Teams converted a field goal, and four punts for a 41 yards average; however, the punt team could have recovered a fumble, but poor punt coverage didn't give them that opportunity.
Second Half will be all Nittany Lions if this continues. It's hard to defending this team's poor performance and coaching. We have had three years to build a quality program; we are mediocre by Big Ten standards at the point of attack.
