Observations on the win over Minnesota, 58-0

Michigan ended up with 9 red zones for 44 points, Minnesota got one red zone with about 5 minutes to go in the game and fumbled. Michigan scored 14 points off two Gopher turnovers.

Denard Robinson was 15 of 19 for 169 yards and 2 TDs, and ran for 51 yards on 6 carries for another TD. Fitzgerald Touissaint had 108 yards on 11 carries for a TD. Michael Shaw had 8 carries for 60 yards. Vincent Smith had 27 yards on 5 carries, threw a 17 TD pass to Drew Dileo and caught a 28 yard TD pass. Junior Hemingway had 5 catches for 56 yards. Jeremy Gallon had 4 catches for 46 yards. Kevin Koger had 3 catches for 35 yards and a TD. Thomas Rawls had 10 carries for 78 yards. Stephon Hopkins had a 6 yard run and a 28 yard catch. Drew Dileo had 2 catches for 23 yards and a TD. Devin Gardner was 2 of 5 for 31 yards, and had 6 carries for 35 yards and a 2 yard reception. We had 32 first downs, 580 yards of total offense, 363 on the ground, 6 of 11 on 3rd down conversions and a 12 minute time of possession advantage; this gave us 26 more offensive plays. Only two punts on the day, two three and outs with no turnovers for the offense. Kyle Henderson has 10 tackles for the Gophers.

Defense was great! Minnesota never even entered our territory until 1:06 to go in the 3rd quarter, and only had 8 first downs. They had six 3 and outs, . Blake Countess led the defense for the second week in a row with 5 tackles, a forced fumble and had two pass break ups. Craig Roh and Kenny Demens also had 5 tackles each. Roh, Ryan VanBergen and Jake Ryan had sacks. Courtney Avery picks up a fumble and rambles 83 yards for our final score. Minnesota had a net of 177 yards, 73 on the ground and was zero of 11 on 3rd down conversions. True Freshman Max Shortell was 11 of 22 for 104 yards.

Matt Wile had 11 kickoffs and 3 touchbacks, and one out of bounds. Brendon Gibbons hit all six extra points and all three field goal attempts.

Walk-on Paul Gyarmati changed numbers to #99, and saw action at fullback on offense. Walk-on Mike Kwiatkowki saw action at Tight End. Brandon Herron got in on special teams. Cam Gordon still didn not play. Ricky Barnum didn't play either. Mike Cox didn't even dress.

Northwestern will be a real tough game next week with Persa back even though Illinois came back to beat them. Go Blue!!!
