Observations on the first half with Maryland, 6-0
Michigan looks absolutely terrible on offense, but musters two red zones in the second quarter and converts both for two field goals. The Terrapins and the Wolverines cannot convert any points off two turnovers each.
Offense is pathetic! Jake Rudock is 12 of 18 for 121 yards, and rushes twice for 20 yards with a fumble giveaway. Offense can only come up with 5 first downs, 164 total yards including only 43 on the ground; we are only 3 of 11 in 3rd and 4th down conversions. Derrick Green has 4 rushes for 16 yards. Ty Isaac gained 8 yards in 3 carries after getting the start with DeVeon Smith not making the trip; he also fumbled away a 4th down carry to Maryland. Jake Butt caught 4 passes fo 61 yards, and Jehu Chesson also grabbed 4 for 41 yards.
Defense was absolutely dominant forcing the Terrapins into four "3 and outs." Caleb Rowe was 8 of 24 for only 47 yards. We forced Maryland into 6 punts, and two turnovers. The Terrapins have 6 first downs, 68 net yards of total offense, and were only 1 of 10 in 3rd down conversions. Desmond Morgan led the defense with 5 tackles and an interception. Jeremy Clark got his first start as Channing Stribling didn't make the trip, and he got his 3rd interception of the season. As bad as we were on offense, our stellar defense allowed our offense to maintain a 2:30 time of possession advantage
Kenny Allen made two of three field goal attempts. Jabrill Peppers got a 29 yard punt return. Blake O'Neill nailed a coffin corner to the one yard line. We contained William Likely to two returns for only 40 yards. Special Teams did a GREAT job overall in the first half!
I certainly hope the second half isn't as ugly as this one. We need to play like a ranked team who is favored by two TDs. Go Blue!
