Observations on the first half with Maryland, 35-0
Michigan gained 3 red zones, and converted all three for 21 points. Maryland gained one red zone, and came up with a missed field goal. No turnovers for either team.
Offense looks great! Offense rolled up 402 net yards, and was 3 of 3 in 3rd down conversions with 16 first downs. Wilton Speight was 13 of 16 for 292 yards and 2 TDs plus he scored another on a 10 yard run. DeVeon Smith had 8 carries for 49 yards and a TD. Jehu Chesson had 4 catches for 104 yards and a TD. Amara Darboh had 2 catches for 50 yards and a TD. Jake Butt had 4 catches for 61 yards. Chris Evans set up a one yard plunge by Khalid Hill with a 56 yard screen pass, and had a 10 yard carry. Michigan held a 4 minute time of possession advantage which gave them 3 more offensive plays.
Defense let up 190 yards, 9 first downs, and the Terrapins were 2 of 7 in 3rd and 4th down conversion with 2 punts. Their quarterbacks combined for 9 of 12 for 150 yards. Lorenzo Harrison gained 32 yards on 5 carries. Ben Gedeon led the defense with 5 tackles, one for loss. We continue to be attacked on the edge with little resolve to defend, and our tackling continues to be poor. Dymonte Thomas almost let the last play of the first half result in a TD, but D.J. Moore was stopped at the one with no time on the clock. Stribling continues to look bad on tackling as well. Laverne Jacobs also got a screen for 32 yards.
Special Teams looked good with Kenny Allen booming 3 kickoffs for touchbacks. No punts. No returns.
2nd Half will be a breather! Bring on Iowa! Go Blue!
