Observations on the first half with Iowa, 6-17
Michigan is getting physically beat on both sides of the ball!!! Iowa converts both red zones for 14 points, and scores 3 points off one Denard Robinson turnover. Michigan earns a measly 6 points off two red zone trips and coughs up a second turnover in their second red zone.
Denard Robinson is 6 of 13 for 64 yards with a TD and a pick, and ran 7 times for 10 yards with a fumble for the Hawkeyes. Fitzgerald Touissaint ran for 46 yards in 9 carries, and a 5 yard TD reception. Offense has 128 yards, 62 on the ground, 9 first downs and is 3 of 7 on 3rd down conversions with two three and outs to begin the game. Junior Hemingway has 3 catches for 38 yards, and two big drops to start the game. Time of possession is even, but obviously Iowa did a better job with their time than we did.
Defense has allowed Iowa 191 yards of total offense, 77 on the ground, 9 first downs and 2 of 7 on 3rd and 4th down conversions. Vandenburg is 9 of 12 for 144 yards. Marcus Coker has 74 yards on 15 carries for a TD. Marvin McNutt has 5 catches for 52 yards, and a 7 yard reverse. Keenan Davis caught a 44 yards to set up their first red zone opportunity. Kenny Demens led the defense with 7 tackles. Blake Countess, Troy Woolfolk and Jordan Kovacs had 4 tackles each.
Special Teams looked bad! Drew Dileo fumbles away the extra point. We allowed Micah Hyde two punt returns for 28 yards.
Second Half will be an uphill struggle to overcome a two score lead for the Hawkeyes, and they get the ball to begin the half. Hopefully, we can create some takeaways. Go Blue!
