Observations on the first half with Colorado, 24-21
Michigan gained 10 points in 3 red zone opportunities, and Colorado gained 7 points in two red zone trips. The Buffaloes scored 7 points off one Wolverine turnover.
It was not a good start for the offense, but we are now clicking. The Wolverines gained 207 net yards, 13 first downs, and were only 1 of 8 in 3rd down conversions. Wilton Speight was 9 of 21 for 124 yards and a TD. DeVeon Smith had 7 carries for 32 yards. Jehu Chesson took a Jet Sweep in from 17 yards out, and Amara Darboh caught a 45 yarder for a TD. Jake Butt caught 5 passes for 60 yards. Kenne Olugbode leads the Buffs with 7 tackles; Chidobe Awuzie is doing a great job on coverage, and had the hit on Speight forcing the fumble for a TD. We've got to get that offense going for the second half!!!
Defense started horridly, but had a much better 2nd quarter. The Buffaloes had 11 first downs, 232 net yards, and was 0 of 6 in 3rd down conversions while being forced into 5 punts. Sefo Liufau was 13 of 21 for 167 yards and 2 TDs. Phillip Lindsey had 9 carries for 43 yards. Devin Ross had 5 catches for 69 yards and 2 TDs against Dymonte Thomas. Jabrill Peppers had 8 tackles to lead the defense, and Ben Gedeon had 7 stops including a sack. Defense needs to throttle Colorado, and get some turnovers.
Special Teams had two blocked punts by Michael Jocz, and Grant Perry recovered one for a TD. Kenny Allen hit 1 of 2 field goal attempts, 4 kickoffs, and punted 4 times for a 38.8 yard average. Pepper had 3 punt returns for 45 yards. Time of possession has a slight edge for Colorado with 3 minutes, but it only gained them one more offensive play.
Taco Charlton, Drake Johnson, Lawrence Marshall and Bryan Mone were not dressed for today's game, but Noah Furbush, Shelton Johnson, and Jourdan Lewis did dress, but none played.
Hopefully, we can take the momentum into the second half and gain a win. Go Blue!
