Observations on the first half with Central Florida, 34-7
Michigan converted 5 red zones for 27 points while Central Florida had no red zones; the Wolverines gained 3 points off one Central Florida turnover.
Offense gained 12 first downs, 236 net yards, but only 73 on the ground; we had one "3 and out" on the first drive. Wilton Speight was 14 of 22 for 163 yards and 3 TDs to 8 different receivers, and was 5 of 9 in 3rd down conversions. Jake Butt caught 2 TD passes and 3 overall for 16 yards. Amara Darboh caught a 45 yarder for a TD. Jehu Chesson caught 3 passes for 78 yards and a TD. DeVeon Smith had 6 carries for 34 yards. Khalid Hill scored our only running TD.
Defense held the Knights to 6 first downs and 179 yards of total offense, 2 of 9 in 3rd down conversions, but a whopping 160 yards on the ground. The Knights scored on a 79 yard TD by Adrian Killins after contain was lost by Mike McCray and Dymonte Thomas. Justin Holman was only 3 of 11 for 19 yards, but scampered for 46 yards on 7 carries. Jabrill Peppers led the defense with 5 tackles, Rashan Gary and Chase Winovich had 4 tackles each, and Gary got his first sack. Michigan held a 3 minute time of possession advantage which led to 5 more offensive plays.
Special Teams came up big with 2 punt blocks by Tyree Kinnel, and 2 field goal blocks by Chris Wormley. Kenny Allen hit two field goals, and punted twice for a 49 yard average including on coffin corner. Allen also shined on his 7 kickoffs with several touchbacks. Jabrill Peppers had 2 punt returns for 46 yards.
As expected, Taco Charlton and Noah Furbush are out for the game, but David Long didn't dress. Matt Godin started at DE over Chris Wormley. Jourdan Lewis is out for his second straight game, and Devin Asiasi is repping at Defensive End. Drake Johnson is out for his second game.
Second Half should continue the blow out with hopefully many 2nd and 3rd team players getting more reps! Go Blue!
