Observations on the first half with San Diego State, 21-0!

Wow! This was about a flawless first half with Michigan gaining two red zones, and converting both for TDs while the Aztecs got no red zones. Michigan converts a San Diego State turnover into 7 points while the Aztecs come up with a three and out on our turnover by Vincent Smith.

Offense comes up with 247 yards, 207 on the ground and was 3 of 5 on 3rd down conversions with 10 first downs. Denard Robinson runs 11 times for 139 yards and aall 3 TDs including a 53 yarder. Vincent Smith gains 38 yards on 2 carries plus 8 yards on a catch. Fitzgerald Touissaint gains 30 yards on 6 carries. Roy Roundtree had 2 catches for 15 yards plus drew a pass interference penalty. Ricky Barnum left with a leg injury, but returned later while Mike Schofield spelled him at Left Guard.

Defense played great!!! The Aztecs managed 164 yards, 8 first downs and were 4 of 9 on 3rd and 4th down conversions. Ryan Lindley was only 7 of 15 for 75 yards, and Ronnie Hillman gained 56 yards in 13 carries. Dylan Denso had 4 catches for 53 yards. Troy Woolfolk had 5 tackles, but was really getting picked on; he had to leave the game with an ankle injury and Courtney Avery came in. Thomas Gordon and Brandin Hawthorne had 4 tackles each. Kenny Demens forced the Hillman fumble that Gordon recovered. Defensive line was getting better penetration and pass rush; Ryan VanBergen tipped a pass.

Matt Wile got his first touchback on a kickoff, and the kickoff team looks much better. Wile also had a 48 yard punt downed inside the 20. Jeremy Gallon did a great job recovering a fumble that hit J.T. Floyd on punt coverage, and made some nice fair catches including coming up to grab one at the 19.

We get the ball the start the second half. Hopefully we can do a better job in ball control and get time of possession advantage while protecting a 3 score lead.
