Observations on the first half with Rutgers, 21-7

Michigan created 3 first half red zones for 21 points; two in the second quarter by new Quarterback Brandon Peters. Rutgers had no red zones, and scored no points off one Wolverine turnover.

Offense sputtered under John O'Korn as he fumbled twice and threw an interception while going 3 for 6 for 13 yards. Brandon Peters came in and went 5 for 5 for 69 yards and a TD. Michigan ran for 168 yards with 15 first downs, and were 2 of 5 in 3rd and 4th down conversions wtih 250 net yards while holding a 9 minute time of possession advantage which gave us 20 more offensive plays than Rutgers. Ty Isaac led the running attack with 83 yards on 9 carries. Karan Higdon gained 62 yards on 11 carries for a TD. Kareem Walker gained 19 yards on 3 carries. Khalid Hill scored on a 1 yard plunge. Chris Evans ran once for 6 yards, and caught the TD pass of 20 yards. Nico Collins got his first reception as a Wolverine for 12 yards moving us into a red zone. Damon Hayes has 7 tackles for the Scarlett Knights.

Defense held Rutgers to 4 first downs, and 111 net yards; the Scarlett punted 4 times with one "3 and out." Maurice Hurst led the defense with 6 tackles including a sack. Janarioun Grant scampered for a 65 yard TD on a QB keeper while Devin Bush was deked for the second week in a row; last week it was Saquon Barkley. Rashan Gary got the other sack. Giovanni Rescigno was 3 of 7 for 29 yards including a 28 yarder to Josh Hicks.

James Foug kicked off 3 times with 2 touchbacks, but we gave Grant a 27 yard return that Nick Schoenle luckily tripped him up.
