Observations on the first half with Minnesota, 20-7
Each team managed only one red zone each, and both converted into touchdowns. Neither team had any turnovers.
Offense was solid! Karan Higdon ran 9 times for 163 yards and a TD from 77 yards out. Chris Evans ran 6 times for 111 yards and a 60 yard TD. Brandon Peters hit 5 of 8 for 46 yards and a 20 yard TD to Sean McKeon. We had 10 first downs, 312 total yards with 266 on the ground, and were 2 of 4 in 3rd down conversions. Peters was sacked once. Ruiz started for Onwenu. Wheatley, Isaac and Grant Perry all are missing this game due to injuries. Crawford and Walker are available, but haven't played yet.
Defense held the Gophers in check with Khaleke Hudson leading the team with 7 tackels. Tyree Kinnel had 5 tackles, and Maurice Hurst got a sack plus a tipped pass. The Gophers racked up 7 first downs and 128 net yards with 79 on the ground. Metellus continues to look beleagured at Safety.
Special Teams were solid on 4 kickoffs with James Foug and great coverage. Quinn Nordin was a disappointment missing a field goal, and an extra point while barely making his first. Donovan Peoples-Jones had one return for 7 yards, but a bad penalty by Benjamin St. Juste negated another return. Brad Robbins punted once for 49 yards to the Gopher 9 yard line. 4 penalties for 35 yards killed drives and hurt field position.
2nd Half should be a breeze! Bring on the Terrapins! Go Blue!
