Observations on the win over Nebraska, 45-7
Michigan scored 38 points in 6 Red Zones; Nebraska gained two red zones, but no points scored. The Wolverines scores 7 points off one Cornhusker turnover.
Offense was sharp! J.J. McCarthy hit 12 of 16 passes for 156 yards and 2 TDs to Roman Wilson. Offense gained 436 total yards with 249 on the ground, 26 first downs, and was 10 of 16 in 3rd and 4th down conversions. Blake Corum ran 16 times for 74 yards and a TD. Donovan Edwards ran 14 times for 48 yards plus had a 3 yard catch. Kalel Mullings powered his way to 43 yards in 5 carries including a 20 yard TD. McCarthy ran twice for 30 yards including a 21 yard TD. In addition to Wilson's 4 catches for 58 yards, Cornelius Johnson caught 2 passes for 32 yards, A.J. Barner caught 2 passes for 26 yards, and Darrius Clemons caught 2 passes for 29 yards. Peyton O'Leary caught and 8 yard TD pass to end the rout. Michigan dominated time of possession by 16 minutes that led to 28 more offensive plays. Nick Henrich had 9 tackles; Omar Brown, Issac Gifford, and Javin Wright had 7 tackles each for the Cornhuskers.
Defense was solid! Nebraska ended up with 305 yards, mostly against our 2nd team defense with 10 first downs, and was 4 of 13 in 3rd and 4th down conversions. Heinrich Haarberg hit 14 of 25 passes for 199 yards, but had Braiden McGregor tip a pass that Kenneth Grant intercepted. Haarberg ran 9 times for -2 yards after 4 sacks were deducted. Josh Fleeks ran a 74 yard TD when Micah Pollard failed to fill a gap, and no safety could catch him. Billy Kemp caught 4 passes for 61 yards. Keon Sabb and Josiah Stewart led the defense with 5 tackles each; Derrick Moore and Michael Barrett forced fumbles. Stewart had 2 sacks, McGregor and Moore had one each.
Special Teams was also terrific with Tommy Doman hitting a 65 yard punt, and touchbacks on all kickoffs. Tyler Morris ran back a punt for 30 yards after a fumble. Jake Thaw had an 11 yard punt return. James Turner hit a field goal. Christian Boivin had a great kickoff return tackle.
