Observations on the win over Northwestern, 41-10!

1-We had 7 red zone opportunities and six conversions for 34 points and the 26yard pass to Edwards for our points. We had 26 first downs, 5 touchdowns and were forced into only 2 punts. We were 11 of 17 in 3rd down conversions, and one of one on 4th down. We netted 505 yards in total offense, and held a 12 minute time of possession advantage.

2-Was Navarre clicking or what? He is 22 of 31 for 288 yards and 2 TDs. Braylon Edwards had 9 catches for 112 yards and 1 TD, Perry had 5 catches for 50 yards, Avant and Breaston had 2 each for 40 and 42 yards respectively. How about the "one hand" TD grab by Avant?

3-Defense continues to play well limiting the Wildcats to 12 first downs, and 4 of 13 in 3rd down conversions; we forced them into 6 punts. They had two red zone opportunities for 10 3 points; that reverse on 4th down gave us a "taste of our own medicine" with how we trick other teams. Bowman led the defense with 7 tackles, Reid and Shazor had 6 each; we had 10 tackles for loss as a defense. Jackson did play at safety, but Barringer started and played most of the game; Jackson had 4 tackles. Hall looked good with an interception and 3 tackles, and Woodley also looked tough with 2 tackles including a sack.

4-Perry had 122 yards in 25 rushing attempts and 2 TDs; Underwood had 40 yards in 10 carries and Jerome Jackson scored our last touchdown and had 39 yards in 9 carries. We netted 217 rushing yards.

5-Special teams continue to be "hot and cold." Breaston did have one nice 19 yard runback on a punt, and would have had a long return for a TD except for the offside penalty that kept the Northwestern drive alive. Rivas made two of three field goals, and 5 extra point attempts. Finley had his only punt downed at the 2, and Nienberg did a nice job on kickoffs; however, our kickoff coverage allowed a long return to the 46.

6-It looks like its Michigan vs. Ohio State next week for "all the marbles." The Big Ten title, Rose Bowl and bragging rights in the greatest rivalry in all college football and maybe all of sports.

We are 5 of 7 in 3rd down conversions, and this plus the two turnovers have resulted in a nearly 6 minute time of possession advantage.

2-Is Navarre clicking or what? He is 16 of 18 for 213 yards and 2 TDs. Braylon Edwards has 7 catches for 92 yards and 1TD, Perry has 4 catches for 37 yards, Avant and Breaston have 2 each for 40 and 42 yards respectively. How about the "one hand" TD grab by Avant?

3-Defense continues to play well limiting the Wildcats to 4 first downs. The Wildcats are 2 of 7 in 3rd down conversions, and have been forced into 4 punts. They've had one red zone opportunity for 3 points. Reid leads with 5 tackles, Bowman has 4 and Woodley has a sack. Shazor is looking tough with big hits. Jackson did start at safety, Woodley is playing most of the time for Stevens.

4-Perry has 72 yards in 16 rushing attempts and 2 TDs; Underwood has 27 yards in 5 carries.

5-Kicking game has been mediocre allowing the runback to the 46 that contributed towards their only score, and Rivas missed a field goal. Breaston did have one nice 19 yard runback on a punt, but has been forced into fair catches or watching short punts go out of bounds as it is obvious they are kicking away from him.
