Observations on the win over
Indiana, 41-14!
1-Michigan converts on five of six
red zones for 34 points in the first half while Indiana doesn't
get one red zone opportunity until the 4th quarter, and converts.
Indiana scores first and last, but Michigan scores 41 points and
takes the second half off.
2-Steve Breaston catches 3 passes for
46 yards and a TD, a reverse for 30 yards, takes a kickoff back
for 47 yards and 3 punt returns for 80 yards. He ends up with
203 all-purpose yards in the first half.
3-Chad Henne leads the Wolverines with
17 completions in 24 attempts for 174 yards, 3 TDs, 17 first downs,
316 yards in total offense and 7 of 9 in 3rd down conversions
in the first half. Matt Guttierrez plays most of the second half,
but doesn't lead the Wolverines into red zone territory. We end
up with 26 first downs, 425 yards in total offense and 11 of 21
in 3rd and 4th down conversions in 86 offensive plays. We were
only forced into 3 punts.
4-Kevin Grady rushed for 94 yards in
14 carries including a TD run of 32 yards to go with a second
TD carry. He also grabs 4 screens for 20 yards. Jerome Jackson
had 22 yards in 8 carries including a TD. We rush for 216 yards
in 49 carries after 3 sacks are deducted. Bradley gets 49 yards
in 9 carries. Max Martin gets 5 carries, but only nets 9 yards.
5-Special Teams were superb except
the Rivas missed field goal and extra point. We dominate field
position and time of possession by over 13 minutes leading to
a 28 play advantage. Ryan had 6 touchbacks in 7 kickoffs, and
3 punts with 2 downed inside the 20.
6-Defense looked solid! Harris led
the defense with 5 tackles, Burgess intercepts a pass and Gabe
Watson had two tackles for loss. Barringer and Engelmon both start
at safety. We limited the Hoosiers to 9 first downs, 210 yards
in total offense in 58 plays and forced them into 10 punts and
one turnover. Pretty impressive! This is a team that held the
ball for 101 plays against Iowa. They were only 3 of 15 in 3rd
and 4th down conversions. Other than the big play 42 yard TD pass
that burned Hall, we were great on D! Jamison and Crable recorded
sacks.
7-Jason Avant had 5 catches for 66
yards and one TD, all in the first half.
8-I hope Manningham isn't hurt after
fielding a punt, and limping off.
9-Player participation notes include
Manningham starting over Breaston, Bihl starting and playing virtually
the whole way with Kraus not playing at all, McAvoy getting in
at right guard late, Pierre Woods starting over Woodley, Sears
getting action on special teams, and Stewart and Logan seeing
more action at cornerback and linebacker respectively.
10-Bring on the Buckeyes!
