Observations on the win over UNLV, 35-7
Michigan converted 4 of 5 red zone trips for 28 points; UNLV had one red zone for 7 points late in the 4th quarter against our 2nd defense. Michigan had one turnover with no points scored off the turnover.
J.J. McCarthy hit 22 of 25 passes for 278 yards, and 2 TDs; he also ran 3 times for 38 yards. Offense had 492 total yards, 23 first downs, and 179 yards on the ground; they were 7 of 13 on 3rd and 4th down conversions. Blake Corum ran 15 times for 80 yards and 3 TDs; he also caught 2 passes for 23 yards. Donovan Edwards ran 6 times for 9 yards, and caught 5 passes for 26 yards. Cornelius Johnson caught 5 passes for 82 yards, and ran once for 26 yards. Roman Wilson caught 4 passes for 89 yards and 2 TDs. Tyler Morris had 3 catches for 40 yards. The backup offense didn't look good, and had a turnover on an interception by Davis Warren. Jack Tuttle left the game after one play, a 14 yard run that ended in a personal foul that resulted in a shoulder injury. Cameron Oliver and Marsel McDuffie led the Rebels with 9 tackles each.
UNLV gained 229 yards, 15 first downs; the Rebels were 3 of 15 on 3rd and 4th down conversions. Mason Graham, Kris Jenkins, Braiden McGregor, Jaylen Harrell, and Mike Sainristil had 5 tackles each to lead the defense. Doug Brumfield was sacked 5 times in the first half, and the Wolverines had 10 tackles for loss. Jacob De Jesus had 5 catches for 46 yards. Michigan's advabtage with time of possession by 2 minutes which gave them 4 more offensive plays.
Special Teams were good! Jake Thaw had a 19 yard punt return, and Morris had a 5 yard return. Kalel Mullings and Semaj Morgan had 26 and 28 yard kickoff returns. Tommy Doman punted twice with one downed inside the 20; his kickoffs were all touchbacks except one that went out of bounds. All extra points were hit. Joe Taylor had a nice tackle on a punt return, but then missed a tackle that resulted in a 22 yard return by De Jesus.
