Observations on the win over Washington, 24-7

Michigan scored 17 points in 4 red zone trips; Washington scored 7 points in two red zone attempts. The Wolverines scored 14 points off 3 second half Husky turnovers.

Offense gained 417 net yards with 187 on the ground, and was 6 of 15 in 3rd and 4th down conversions with 23 first downs. Bryce Underwood hit 21 of 27 passes for 230 yards and 2 TDs; he ran 7 times for 25 yards, and was only sacked once. Jordan Marshall ran 25 times for 133 yards and a TD; he also caught 3 passes for 20 yards. Donovan McCulley caught 2 passes for 21 yards, and ran a reverse for 11 yards; he also almost had a pass intercepted on an attempt. Andrew Marsh caught 5 passes for 49 yards and a TD. Deokon Tonielli caught 3 passes for 38 yards. Zach Marshall caught 5 passes for 72 yards and a TD. The reserve tight ends came up big with both Hogan Hansen and Marlin Klein unavailable. Semaj Morgan caught 2 passes for 20 yards. Channing Goodwin caught a pass for 10 yards. Jasper Parker ran 6 times for 20 yards. The offense had a 15 minute time of possession advantage that led to 13 more offensive plays. Alex McLaughlin and Makell Esteen led Washington with 8 tackles each.

Defense came up big in the second half! The Wolverine defense allowed the Huskies 249 net yards with 40 on the ground; they were 6 of 14 in 3rd down conversions with 14 first downs. The defense only allowed Washington 4 first downs in the second half, and forced 3 turnovers. Demond Williams hit 20 of 32 passes for 209 yards, and was sacked twice for -19 yards in 5 carries. Jonah Coleman ran 16 times for 50 yards, and caught 3 passes for 41 yards. Raiden Vines-Bright caught 3 passes for 35 yards including a 31 yarder that set up a red zone. Denzel Boston caught 4 passes for 71 yards including a 48 yarder that set up a red zone. Dezmond Roebuck caught 3 passes for 27 yards. Jimmy Rolder led the defense with 8 tackles and an interception. Ernest Hausmann had 7 tackles, and Zeke Berry had 6 stops. Cole Sullivan had a big interception near the end of the 3rd quarter that set up a red zone, and broke the 7-7 tie; it was the play of the game.

Special Teams was much better in the second half! Dominic Zvada hit a field goal, and Hudson Hollenbeck had a 55 yard punt that kept the Husky offense inside the 20.

The coaches made halftime adjustments that worked well, and the players executed them. Bring on the Spartans! Go Blue!
