Observations on the first half with Rutgers, 24-0
Michigan converted 3 red zones into 17 points; Rutgers was stopped for no points on their only red zone. Neither team has any turnover.
Offense accumulated 252 yards in 36 plays with 15 first downs, but only 69 on the ground; they were 3 of 5 on 3rd down conversions, and held a 4 minute time of possession advantage which gave them 12 more offensive plays. Shea Patterson was 12 of 15 for 183 yards for a TD plus he ran 3 times for 3 yards and 2 TDs after deducting a sack. Zach Charbonnet ran 5 times for 24 yards; Christian Turner ran 5 times for 27 yards, and both Tru Wilson and Hassan Haskins logged carries as well. Ronnie Bell led all receivers with 4 catches for 50 yards; Nico Collins had 2 receptions for 59 yards including a 48 yard TD. Tarik Black, Donovan Peoples-Jones, and Nick Eubanks all caught 2 passes each.
Defense was led by Kwity Paye and Khaleke Hudson with 5 tackles each; Paye also had a sack plus a quarterback hit. Brad Hawkins had 4 tackles. Rutgers could only muster 5 first downs, 74 yards with 16 on the ground, and was 2 of 7 in 3rd and 4th down conversions.
Special Teams were led by Jake Moody with a field goal, and a touchback in 4 kickoffs. Will Hart punted once for 41 yards with a nice tackle by Daxton Hill. Ronnie Bell and Donovan Peoples-Jones had 2 punt returns for 16 yards. Giles Jackson had a 13 yard kickoff return to start the game.
