Observations on the first half with Maryland, 21-10
Michigan converted 3 of 4 red zone trips for 21 points; Maryland converted two red zone trips for 10 points. The Wolverines scored 7 points off one Terrapin turnover.
Offense gained 244 net yards with only 61 on the ground; they had 14 first downs, and were 8 of 9 in 3rd down conversions. Bryce Underwood hit 14 of 19 for 183 yards and 2 TDs; he was sacked twice, and had 7 yards in 5 carries. Andrew Marsh caught 4 passes for 65 yards and a TD. Donoven McCulley caught 2 passes for 46 yards and a TD. Zach Marshall caught 2 passes for 30 yards. Marlin Klein caught 2 passes for 16 yards. Bryson Kuzdzal ran 13 times for 53 yards, and caught an 8 yard pass. Max Bredeson caught a 7 yard pass. Michigan held almost a two minute time of possession advantage that resulted in one more offensive play. Jalen Huskey led the Maryland defense with 5 tackles.
Defense allowed Maryland 194 total yards wtih 41 on the ground; the Terrapins had 11 first downs, and were 4 of 9 in 3rd and 4th down conversions. Malik Washington was 13 of 24 for 153 yards and a TD plus an interception by Mason Curtis; Washington had 4 carries for 8 yards, and he was sacked once.. Shaleak Knotts caught 2 passes for 37 yards. Jalil Farooq caught 3 passes for 36 yards. Octavian Smith caught 2 passes for 30 yards. DeJuan Williams ran 8 times for 31 yards, and caught 2 passes for 21 yards. Dorian Fleming caught 2 passes for 14 yards and a TD. Mason Curtis led the defense with 4 tackles, and the interception.
Special Teams continues to be disappointing. Dominic Zvada continues to miss easy field goals. Andrew Marsh has been an improvement with punt returns with 23 yards on 2 chances; Marsh also gained 9 yards on a kickoff.
Second Half needs to start with a drive for a TD, and then ball control to extend a time of possession advantage. Defense needs to adjust and smother the Terrapin offense. Go Blue!
