Observations on the first half with Maryland, 17-13
Offense didn't look good! Offense gained 234 yards with 134 on the ground with 13 first downs; they were only able to convert one of two red zone opportunities for 7 points. J.J. McCarthy was 11 of 16 for 100 yards for a TD, but missed Roman Wilson twice on deep routes. Blake Corum ran 13 times for 132 yards and a TD, and that was the difference in the halftime score. The offense fumbled 3 times including two by McCarthy, and lost one from C.J. Stokes; the Terrapins capitalized for 3 points. Luke Schoonmaker caught 5 passes for 50 yards and a TD. Cornelius Johnson has 3 grabs for 27 yards. Jakorian Bennett, Isaiah Hazel, and Beau Brade have 5 tackles each for Maryland; Anthony Booker has forced two Wolverine fumbles.
Defense looked bad! Taulia Tagovailoa was 12 of 18 for 121 yards, and ran twice for 16 yards; the Terp offense gained 195 yards with 74 on the ground with 12 first downs, and scored 7 points in their only red zone trip Tagovailoa has outplayed McCarthy in the game so far. Antwain Littleton powered through the Wolverine defense for 38 yards on 6 carries for a TD. Tagovailoa hit 6 different receivers for 12 receptions. Junior Colson had 6 tackles to lead the defense, and Michael Barrett contributed 4 stops. D.J. Turner has an interception that wasn't reviewed, THANK YOU! Defense is simply not pressuring Tagovailoa enough, and not winning at the line of scrimmage. Michigan held a two minute time of possession advantage, but it only resulted in one more offensive play.
Special Teams started well with a fumble recovery at the 9 yard line by Matt Hibner; this led to a red zone TD to start the game, but Maryland came back to grab a 13-10 lead just prior to halftime. Chad Ryland outkicked Justin Moody hitting both his field goals while Moody only hit one of two tries. Each team punted once each, but Brad Robbins 47 yarder was downed inside the 10 yard line.
Second Half will be a thriller! The team with the least mistakes should prevail! Go Blue!
