Observations on the first half with Michigan State, 7-0
Michigan gained two red zones, but only converted one for 7 points. No red zones for MSU. Both teams had 3 "3 and outs," and no turnovers.
Offense gained 9 first downs and 170 yards on 37 plays, and is 4 of 10 in 3rd down conversions. Shea Patterson hit 9 of 15 for 86 yards and a TD. Nico Collins caught 2 passes for 16 yards including a 10 yard TD. Karan Higdon ran 12 times for 65 yards. Sean McKeon caught 2 passes for 24 yards. Nick Eubanks caught a 25 yarder. Andrew Dowell and Joe Bachie led the Spartans with 6 tackles each. 8 and a half minutes time of possession advantage has given us 11 more offensive plays after an 80 minute lightning delay.
Defense is getting the job done! Brian Lewerke is 3 of 13 for 38 yards, and has been sacked twice by Josh Uche; the Spartans are 0 for 6 in 3rd down conversions with only 49 net yards for 4 first downs. L.J. Scott has 7 runs for 23 yards, and a reception for 15. Tyree Kinnel leads the defense with 5 tackles. Khaleke Hudson and Chase Winovich have 3 tackles each; Winovich has 2 quarterback hits. We've forced the Spartans into 6 punts, and Hunt has an average of 37.8 yards.
Special Teams gave us great field position in the first half! Will Hart punted 5 times with 2 downed inside the 20. Donovan Peoples-Jones had 3 returns including a 16 yarder. Jake Moody squibbed a 55 yard kickoff. Quinn Nordin missed a field goal.
Second Half will continue to be a low scoring defensive game; hopefully, we'll come out on top. Go Blue!
