Observations on the first half with Iowa, 13-0
The Wolverines completely dominated the first half! Michigan had nearly 21 minutes of time of possession that resulted in 26 more offensive plays; they had 18 first downs, and were 2 of 6 in 3rd and 4th down conversions. Michigan gained 236 net yards with 131 on the ground. Ronnie Bell ran a reverse for a 16 yard TD; he also caught a 16 yard pass. Blake Corum ran 16 times for 79 yards and caught 2 passes for 9 yards. Donovan Edwards ran 4 times for 29 yards, and caught 2 passes for 6 yards. J.J. McCarthy hit 13 of 18 passes for 105 yards to 7 different receivers, and ran 4 times for 7 yards. Roman Wilson caught 4 passes for 28 yards. Andrel Anthony caught one pass for 29 yards. The Wolverines gained 10 points in two red zone trips. Seth Benson had 10 tackles for the Hawkeyes.
Defense held the Hawkeyes scoreless! The Hawkeyes could only gain 91 yards with 23 on the ground, and was zero for three in 3rd down conversions. Defense force 3 Hawkeye punts in 3 possessions with their fourth possesion with only 9 seconds to go. Spencer Petras hit 6 of 10 passes for 68 yards. Sam Laporta caught 2 passes for 16 yards. Luke Lachey caught a 26 yarder, and Brody Brecht caught a 19 yarder. Junior Colson had 5 tackles to lead the defense. Mazi Smith had a nice quarterback hit on Petras.
Special Teams were solid with two field goals by Moody plus great kickoff coverage holding Iowa to a 13 yard kickoff return! Robbins punted once with it downed inside the 10 yard line. A.J. Henning had two punt returns for 13 yards.
Second Half will continue to be a defensive, field position struggle. No turnovers for Michigan should result in a win! Go Blue!
