Observations on the first half with Indiana, 10-10
Indiana came to play, and converted 10 points in 3 red zones; Michigan could only convert 10 points in 2 red zones. The Wolverines could not score off one Hoosier turnover.
Offense gained 206 yards with only 77 on the ground; they were only 2 of 8 in 3rd and 4th down conversions with 10 first downs. Blake Corum ran 10 times for 60 yards including a 50 yard scamper in the first series that led to a 1 yard TD. Donovan Edwards ran 5 times for 5 yards, and caught a 10 yard pass. J.J. McCarthy hit 13 of 18 for 129 yards, and ran twice for 12 yards. Ronnie Bell caught 5 passes for 59 yards. Luke Schoonmaker caught 5 passes for 32 yards. Cornelius Johnson and A.J. Henning each caugh a pass for 16 and 12 yards. Devon Matthews and Aaron Casey have 5 tackles each for the Hoosiers.
Defense was ill-prepared for the Indiana offense. Connor Bazelak hit 18 of 31 for 163 yards and a TD; the Hoosiers have 16 first downs, and were 4 of 8 in 3rd down conversions with 193 total yards. Indiana ran 11 more offensive plays despite a Michigan time of possession advantage by 3 minutes. Jaylin Lucas ran once for 39 yards. Emery Simmons caught 5 passes for 43 yards. Shaun Shivers caught 4 passes for 17 yards. Josh Henderson caught 3 passes for 30 yards including an 11 yard TD pass. Michael Barrett, Junior Colson, and Rod Moore lead the Wolverine defense with 5 tackles each. We have 3 quarterback hits and 3 sacks on Bazelak; hopefully, we can wear him out as the game progresses. Rod Moore had the interception for Michigan.
Special Teams was even with one field goal for each squad plus one blocked field goal attempt as well. Brad Robbins has punted twice for a 43.5 yard average. A.J. Henning has 3 kickoff returns for 58 yards, and a 4 yard punt return. James Evans has only had to punt once for 46 yards. Michigan had 5 penalties for 54 yards.
Hopefully, Mike Hart will be o.k.; he may have suffered a seizure or heart attack. The team was really shaken and shocked by the loss of Coach Hart.
Second Half will be a test of conditioning and adjustment! It will most likely be a nailbiter right down to the end as the Hoosiers came to play, and have us in a "dogfight." Go Blue!
