Observations on the first half with Indiana, 21-14
Both teams gained two red zones each, and converted both for 14 points each; the Wolverines were unable to score off one Hoosier turnover.
Offense gained 14 first downs, 232 yards in 24 plays with 56 on the ground. Shea Patterson was 13 of 18 for 176 yards and 3 TDs; he was sacked twice. Nico Collins had 4 catches for 70 yards and a TD. Donovan Peoples-Jones had 4 catches for 32 yards and a TD. Giles Jackson had a 50 yard catch and run. Ronnie Bell scored a TD on an 8 yard catch. Hassan Haskins has 33 yards on 7 carries; Zach Charbonnet has 32 yards on 4 carries.
Defense started poorly, but came back to have a better second quarter forcing Indiana into 3 "three and outs." The Hoosiers had 11 first downs, 158 yards in 32 offensive plays with 60 on the ground. Peyton Ramsey was 10 of 15 for 98 yards with an interception; he was sacked once, but finished with 4 carries for 13 yards and a TD. Stevie Scott had 10 carries for 50 yards and a TD, but he may not be able to play the rest of the way. Daxton Hill led the defense with 6 tackles plus an interception. Khaleke Hudson and Aidan Hutchinson had 5 tackles each. Time of possession was in favor of Indiana by over 6 minutes, but Michigan had 2 more offensive plays; both teams were 2 of 5 in 3rd down conversions.
Special Teams were led by Giles Jackson with 2 returns for 58 yards; Donovan Peoples-Jones had a 7 yard punt return. Will Hart really had a poor first half with 3 punts for a 31.3 yard average; each team had one punt downed inside the 20.
Second Half could be another nailbiter! Indiana is playing without two of their best offensive players, but they hustle and keep spreading out the defense. We need more turnovers, and more offensive time of possession to win this game. Go Blue!
