Observations on the first half with Arkansas State, 21-3
Michgan had two turnovers, but Arkansas State only gained 3 points off those two miscues. The Red Wolves converted one red zone into 3 points; Michigan converted two red zones for 14 points.
Offense gained 282 net yards with 176 on the ground with 14 first downs; they were 5 of 5 on 3rd down conversions. Davis Warren hit 8 of 10 passes for 106 yards, but threw two interceptions and had two sacks. Kalel Mullings ran 7 times for 86 yards and 2 TDs. Donovan Edwards ran 13 times for 70 yards. Ben Hall gained 14 yards and Semaj Morgan gained 13 yards on carries; Morgan also had a 5 yard reception. Freddy Moore caught 3 passes for 38 yards. Marlin Klein had 2 catches for 40 yards. Colston Loveland had 2 catches for 23 yards. Michigan dominated time of possession despite the turnovers with a 6 minute advantage which resulted in 2 more offensive plays. Justin Parks led the Red Wolves with 7 tackles.
Defense forced Arkansas State into three "3 and outs;" however, they gained 112 yards with -6 in rushing and were 2 of 8 in 3rd down conversions with 6 first downs. Jaylen Raynor hit 15 of 22 for 118 yards. Corey Rucker caught 3 passes for 26 yards, Courtney Jackson caught 3 passes for 22 yards, Reagan Ealy caught 2 passes for 29 yards, Miller McCrumby caught 2 passes for 9 yards, and Adam Jones caught a pass for 18 yards. Zak Wallace had 3 carries for 5 yards, and one catch for 6 yards. Ernest Hausmann led Wolverine tacklers with 5 stops including a sack; Jaishawn Barham and Will Johnson had 4 tackles each.
Special Teams were solid with Tommy Doman kicking off each time with touchbacks. No punts. No punt returns, and a fair catch on the only kickoff. Van Andel only made one of three field goals.
