The 1928 and 1984 Olympic Wrestling Trials were held in Grand Rapids (George Pinneo and Roscoe Bennett) and Allendale (Jim Scott).

Cliff Keen was U.S. Olympic Team Coach in 1948; George Pinneo of the Grand Rapids YMCA was U.S. Olympic Team Wrestling Coach in 1920, and Fendley Collins was U.S. Wrestling Team Coach in 1964

Fendley Collins was also the Coach for the U.S. Pan-American Wrestling Team in 1955, and hosted the Pan-American Try-Outs in East Lansing in 1959

The 1969 National AAU Wrestling Championships were held in Detroit at Cobo Hall when the Michigan Wrestling Club won the team championship.

The Men's Wrestling World Cup was held in Toledo in 1973, 1975-1986, and 1988-1991 plus the Men's World Championships in 1962 and 1966 in large part due to the great political acumen of Joe Scalzi, former Toledo wrestling coach, 1950-1966. After he passed away in 1986, no more events have been held there; No World Cup Wrestling Championship event has been held in Michigan.
