for 2005-2006 Season
New recruits for 2005: Lieberman, Bourdon and Kippley
Season Summary: We finished #5 in the Super 6! We lost three times
this year to #3 Utah,
twice to #1 Georgia, split with #4 UCLA,
and lost once to Alabama. We defeated #6 Nebraska
four times, #7 LSU, #12 Oklahoma, #18 Arizona, #10 Penn
State four times, #14 Central
Michigan, Ohio
State (twice) #20 Minnesota
(twice), Michigan
State (twice), etc. We had a strong team this year, but our
lack of depth really hurt us competing only 7 or 8 people while
our top competitors compete 12-13. We really need to have a strong
recruiting year, but it will be
tough to upend the top programs nationally like Georgia, Alabama,
UCLA and Utah. Utah has won 9 titles since 1982, Georgia has won
6, UCLA 5 and Alabama 4. Michigan has finished runner-up twice
in 1995 and 1999, but has never won the Super 6. NCAA
Championship History
In the NCAA Final Super Six, there
were 144 routines performed with only 3 falls, and Michigan had
no falls. Georgia had the best team score in the preliminaries
and finals. Georgia
won it with solid, consistent performances in every session
and every event. They were #1 in preliminaries in the vault and
bars, and in the finals they finished #1 in the bars and beam
as a team. UCLA lost the opportunity to stay with Georgia when
they had a lackluster performance on the beam with a closing 48.925.
Alabama vaulted (literally) from possibly finishing fifth after
a miserable performance on beam, 48.85, to the runner-up position
by finishing with the top score on vault with a 49.625. It was
interesting that Georgia rebounded from the worst regional qualifying
score to capture the NCAA title.
Michigan had an outstanding performance
in the preliminaries in the vault ande tied Utah for #2, and an
outstanding floor and bars in the finals finishing #4 in floor
and #3 in bars; however, their beam routine was mediocre for NCAA
final's standards in both sessions with a consistent 48.90 and
identical 196.575 totals in both sessions.

Lindsay Bourdon, Clare Flannery,
Megan Moore and Sarrie Rubin have not competed at all this year.
Since there are only 15 members of the team, after Kroll's injury,
we have had to rely on 10 competitors in 4 events to provide 5
solid scores. Mostly, we have counted on our three all-arounds:
Ray, Bruck and Deiley plus Clauson (3 events), Frosh Kippley (2
to 3 events), Mirkovich (Bar specialist), Frosh Lieberman (2 events),
Duggan (2 to 3 events) and McNamara (1 to 2 events).
Elise Ray had the
highest average all-around scores in the NCAA for 2001 and NCAA
Champ in 2002; Deiley
is returning All-American in 2002! Bruck's leadership in all four
events gives Michigan 3 of the top 25 all-around ladies and makes
us a strong team contender!
Our RQS is 196.595 so far with a
high of 197.80. We finished 8th nationally of 86 teams in NCAA
Division I Women's Gymnastics in 2004.
