The Unranked 8-3 Michigan Wolverines host the 9-2 #8 Ohio State Buckeyes for the 114th meeting between the two schools in the biggest rivalry in college football. Michigan is a 13 point underdog; the Wolverines lead the series against the two rivals, 58-49-6 with a record of 23-20-3 at Michigan Stadium. Urban Meyer is 5-0 against Michigan and 70-8 overall since taking the Buckeye Head Coaching Job; Jim Harbaugh is 0-2 against the Buckeyes, and 28-9 since taking the Wolverine Head Job. Charles Woodson led Michigan over Ohio State in 1997; it was the last year Michigan won a National Title, Ohio has won two recently in 2002 & 2014 under the BCS System. Woodson will be Michigan's Honorary Captain for this game.

On offense, the Buckeyes are led by 5th Year Senior Quarterback, J.T. Barrett; he is the first 3 Year Captain at Ohio State, and has thrown for 6,381 yards and 69 touchdowns while running for 2,456 yards and another 31 touchdowns. Barrett's 100 touchdowns is only 2nd in Big Ten History behind Drew Brees with 106. Redshirt Freshman Dwayne Haskins is his backup. Barrett has a bevy of options at receiver with Redshirt Sophomore K.J. Hill leading the group with 49 receptions and 3 TDs with 4 starts; Junior Parris Campbell has 35 receptions and 2 TDs in 9 starts, Junior Terry McLaurin has 26 receptions and 5 TDs in 11 starts, Binjimen Victor has 23 receptions and 7 TDs in 2 starts, Senior Tight End Marcus Baugh has 21 receptions and 4 TDs in 9 starts, Sophomore Austin Mack has 20 receptions and 2 TDs in 8 starts, Junior Johnnie Dixon has 17 catches and 8 TDs, and Junior C.J. Sanders has 17 receptions and one TD. Then, he also throws to his backs, Freshman J.K. Dobbins with 18 receptions and a TD, Redshirt Sophomore Mike Weber from Detroit Cass Tech with 9 catches, and Freshman Demario McCall with 2 grabs and a TD. When the Buckeyes run the ball, J.K. Dobbins has run for 1098 yards with 6 TDs, Barrett has 605 yards with 8 TDs, Weber has 545 yards wtih 9 TDs, and Sophomore Antonio Williams has 290 yards and 3 TDs. Without a doubt, they will be very difficult to defend. Our defensive backs and linebackers will have their toughest challenge of the year tackling and covering their talented athletes. The Ohio State offensive line is led by Senior Left Tackle Jemarco Jones and 5th Year Senior Center Billy Price with 52 starts; Junior Isaiah Prince is at Right Tackle, Junior Demetrius Knox, and Plymouth Sophomore Michael Jordan is their Left Guard. Jordan, Prince, and Jones have 24 starts each. Branden Bowen broke his leg against Maryland, and Knox replaced him. The Buckeyes have the top ground attack in the Big Ten averaging 253 yards per game, and they have only allowed 16 sacks which is also the lowest in the conference; they have the fewest negative plays in the conference, lead the nation in first downs, and lead the conference in 3rd down conversions. Their offense had created 61 red zone opportunities with 54 scores including 41 TDs as compared to our 36 trips with 19 TDs and 31 scores. It will be very difficult for our defense to hold Ohio State to under 20 points, and we'll need them to do just that if we are to have a chance in this game. In both games Ohio State lost this season, their opponents, Oklahoma and Iowa, kept them under 200 yards in rushing with 167 and 163 yards.

On defense, Ohio State is led by Senior MIKE Linebacker, Chris Worley and Junior WILL Linebacker, Jerome Baker, with 21 and 22 starts; Baker has 46 tackles, 4.5 for loss with 2.5 sacks, and Worley has 43 tackles, 5 for loss with one sack with 5 quarterback hits between them. Redshirt Freshman Tuf Borland backs up Worley, and he has contributed with 39 tackles; Sophomore Keandre Jones backs up Baker. Senior Dante Booker and Sophomore Malik Harrison share the SAM Linebacker; Booker has 31 tackles, 5 for loss with 2 sacks, and Harrison has 28 tackles, 2.5 for loss with 1.5 sacks. The Buckeyes have a strong defensive line anchored by Senior Defensive End Sam Hubbard, and Sophomore Defensive End Nick Bosa; Bosa has 11.5 tackles for loss with 5 sacks and 6 quarterback hits and Hubbard has 7.5 tackles for loss with 2 sacks and 3 quarterback hits. Seniors Tyquan Lewis and Jalyn Holmes back up Bosa and Hubbard, and Freshman Chase Young could also see action. Redshirt Sophomore Dre'Mont Jones and Senior Tracy Sprinkle are the tackles with Redshsirt Sophomore Jashon Cornell as backup. In the backfield, Ohio State has strong run support from Sophomre Safety Jordan Fuller who leads the Buckeyes in tackles with 54; the other safety is Senior Damon Webb from Cass Tech with 49 tackles. Webb has 3 interceptions, and Fuller has one. Their backup is Senior Erick Smith. The Cornerbacks are Junior Denzel Ward and Redshirt Sophomore Damon Arnette; they have broken up or intercepted 20 balls in pass defense includingn 3 interceptions. Sophomore Kendall Sheffield and Freshman Jeffrey Okudah will also see significant action; both Sheffield and Arnette have 32 tackles each. Ohio State is ranked 12th in rushing defense, 11th in total defense, and 22nd in scoring defense nationally; where they are the most vulnerable is in the passing game. Both Oklahoma and Iowa were able to pull out wins against the Buckeyes by putting up 386 yards, 17 first downs in the air, and 3 TDs from Baker Mayfield and 244 yards with 13 first downs and 5 TDs from Nate Stanley.

On special teams, Ohio State continues to excel with top-notch specialists! Their leading scorer is Junior Sean Nuernberger who has made 13 of 15 field goals; however none from 40+ yard away, and the Buckeyes have had one blocked. Their punter, Sophomore Drue Chrisman has a 43.5 yard average on 33 punts with 10 over 50+ yards, and 19 downed inside the 20; Crisman is also the holder for Nuernberger on extra points and field goals. Ohio State leads the Big Ten in net punting; one reason why they continue to win championships and are always in the BCS National Playoff discussions are solid special team play. Blake Haubel only has 11 touchbacks in 71 kickoffs so Ambry Thomas will have a shot on returns. K.J. Hill has 19 punt returns for 66 yards, and Parris Campbell has 9 kickoff returns for a 36.6 yard average; Mike Weber is also deep along with Hill. It is absolutely imperative that we win on special teams against Ohio State if we are to have a chance for an upset; we have to create a field position advantage throughout the game, and take advantage of it. A blocked punt is as good as a turnover, and we need to get one in this game by Hudson or Metellus.

I have not been this pessimistic since 2008 for this game, but the facts are the facts, and Ohio State is heavily favored for several reasons. First, they have a solid offense that can score points on anyone with one of the nation's best quarterbacks; they have offensive threats at every skill position, and a tough, physical offensive line who can create space for them to work their magic. Our defense can help to keep this game close, but our offense can't score touchdowns in the red zones and has a difficult time moving the ball consistently due to a poor offensive line that can't protect the quarterback and inexperienced wide receivers who aren't making plays. It will help playing at home in an emotional game with our biggest rival, but this well-coached Buckeye squad is poised to execute their game plan. It may be close for a half, but don't expect it to last for four quarters. Our offense would need to established a balanced attack with both running and passing; a successful game plan would have us gain 150 yards rushing and 250 yards passing with 20 first downs; however, I'm not going to "hold my breath" on that as we have only gained 400 or more yards of total offense against 5 of our opponents this season, and only against Purdue did we gain over 250 yards in passing. We have only two games with over 20 first downs: Purdue and Rutgers. We would have to gain a turnover advantage of at least 2 with special teams advantage as well to pull this one out at home.

This is the greatest rivalry in all of sports in the United States. They have played every year since 1918, and the game was moved to the last Saturday of the season in 1935. Even though Michigan holds an advantage with 58 wins in 113 games; since 1918, the series is 46 wins and 49 losses with 4 ties. The Buckeyes began calling this series the "Gold Pants" which began in 1934, and hold a 42-36-4 advantage. Ohio State also takes pride in their record against Michigan since the Snow Bowl in 1950 when the Woody Hayes era began, they are 36-27-2 since 1951 (2010 Buckeye win removed).
