Observations on the first half with South Carolina, 9-3

Michigan converted two red zones for 6 points; South Carolina gained no red zones. The Wolverines scored 6 points off two Gamecock turnovers. Easily the most boring bowl game that Michigan has ever played in with both teams having 5 "3 and outs."

Offense was putrid! Brandon Peters was 11 of 23 for 76 yards. We converted 6 first downs, 3 of 12 in 3rd and 4th down conversions for 97 yards including 21 on the ground while holding a 10 minute time of possession advantage which gave theh Wolverines 17 more offensive plays. Karan Higdon ran 8 times for 19 yards, and Chris Evans ran 5 times for 17 yards. Kekoa Crawford has 3 catches for 17 yards. Sean McKeon has 2 catches for 16 yards. T.J. Brunson led South Carolina with 9 tackles.

Defense has been solid against an even worse Gamecock offense! Jake Bentley completed 8 of 13 for 73 yards. South Carolina managed 3 first downs and was zero for 6 in 3rd down conversions. A.J. Turner ran 4 times for 15 yards, and Bryan Edwards caught 3 passes for 63 yards. The gamecocks netted 89 yards, and held the ball less than 10 minutes. Khake Hudson had 7 tackles to lead the defense including a sack and a pass batted down. Mike McCray had 5 tackles.

Special Teams started the game ugly, and was great on kickoff coverage; however, we have 6 punts for 33.2 yards. Will Hart replaced Brad Robbins after 5 disastrous punts. Donovan Peoples-Jones fielded a punt at his 7, and went backwards for 3 yards. The only saving grace were 3 field goals by Quinn Nordin.

2nd Half had better show improvement! We are really not a good football team and it really shows today! The only Michigan game I can remember comparing to this one is the 1984 Sugar Bowl when we lost to Auburn, 9-7.
