Observations on the win over Iowa, 42-3

Michigan completely dominated the second half outscoring Iowa, 28-0! The Wolverines gained 4 red zones for 28 points; the Hawkeyes could only muster 3 points in 3 red zone opportunities. Michigan scored 7 points off one Iowa turnover; the Hawkeyes couldn't score a point off two Wolverines miscues.

Michigan rolled to 461 yards in total offense with 21 first downs including 211 yards on the ground on a solid Iowa defense; they were 4 of 11 in 3rd and 4th down conversions. Cade McNamara hit 16 of 24 passes for 169 yards with one TD, one interception, and one sack. Hassan Haskins ran 17 times for 56 yards and 2 TDs; he caught 3 passes for 22 yards. Blake Corum ran 5 times for 74 yards including a 67 yard TD. Donovan Edwards ran 3 times for one yard and a TD; he passed for a 75 yard TD pass, and caught 3 passes for 20 yards. Roman Wilson caught 2 passes for 82 yards including the 75 yard TD from Edwards. Luke Schoonmaker caught 2 passes for 49 yards, and Erick All caught 2 passes for 43 yards and a TD. J.J. McCarthy ran 4 times for 23 yards and was one of three passing for 6 yards. Jack Koerner led the Hawkeye defense with 8 tackles.

Defense held the Hawkeye offense to 279 yards in 71 plays; they had only 15 first downs, and were 5 of 20 in 3rd and 4th down conversions. Spencer Petras and Alex Padilla combined for 19 of 37 for 175 yards with one interception by Caden Kolesar. Tyler Goodson and Gavin Williams combined for 30 rushes for 106 yards. Sam Laporta caught 6 passes for 62 yards, and Goodson caught 6 passes for 28 yards. Iowa dominated time of possession by 3 minutes which gave them 9 more offensive plays. Josh Ross led the Wolverine defense with 9 tackles.

Special Teams were solid in the second half! Cornelius Johnson blocked a punt that led to a touchdown. A.J. Henning had 2 punt returns for 17 yards. Brad Robbins punted 5 times of a 51 yard average. Iowa dominated field position the entire first half. Jake Moody bombed 7 kickoffs with 6 touchbacks, and no returns. Michigan held Punt return Specialist, Charlie Jones, in check with 2 returns for -6 yards including a fumble; Hassan Haskins got one tackle. Caleb Shudak hit one of two field goals. Tory Taylor punted 7 times with 5 inside the 20.
