Observations on the first half with Wisconsin, 13-10

Michigan earned one red zone for 3 points, but Wisconsin came back with two late 2nd quarter red zones for 10 points; the Badgers had one turnover, and the Wolverines converted it for 3 points.

Offense wasn't great, but capitalized for 13 points with 8 first downs, 158 yards in total offense with 51 on the ground. Michigan was 4 of 13 in 3rd and 4th down conversions. Cade McNamara was 12 of 22 for 107 yards and a TD on a 34 yard "flea flicker" pass to Cornelius Johnson. Roman Wilson had 4 receptions for 39 yards. Blake Corum ran 7 times for 25 yards, and Hassan Haskins ran 9 times for 23 yards. Michigan held a two minute time of possession advantage which gave them 13 additional offensive plays. Jack Sanborn had 9 tackles to lead the Badgers.

Defense started great by holding the Badgers to four "3 and outs;" however Wisconsin rallied offensively to gain 7 first downs in the second quarter with 139 total yards including two scores on their final two drives. Graham Mertz was 8 of 14 for 115 and a TD; he was sacked twice. Chimere Dike had two receptions in the last 30 seconds for a TD. Kendric Pryor had 3 catches for 25 yards, and Jake Ferguson had two receptions for 28 yards. Our pass coverage was atrocious in the final few minutes of the half with J.T. Turner and Daxton Hill looking very bad. David Ojabo, Daxton Hill, and Chris Hinton had 4 tackles each to lead the Wolverine defense; Ojabo and Hinton each had sacks.

Special Teams gave Michigan its lead on a fumble recovery at the 5 yard line by Joey Velazquez that ended up in a red zone field goal by Jake Moody; Moody converted both first half attempts plus three kickoffs with 2 touchbacks. Brad Robbins punted 3 times with two inside the 20. A.J. Henning ran back a 19 yard punt return.

Second Half should be a nailbiter with two inept, but unpredictable offenses trying to convert against two strong defenses. It was a half that looked like it could end with Michigan ahead, 17-0, but all of a sudden changed to 13-10. Hopefully our coaching staff can make necessary adjustments. Go Blue!!!
