Observations on the First Half with Rutgers, 14-7

Michigan converts two of three red zones for 14 points; Rutgers had no red zones. Neither team turned the ball over.

Offense gained 223 yards with 84 on the ground, and 9 first downs; they were 5 of 8 in 3rd and 4th down conversions. J.J. McCarthy hit 9 of 13 passes for 139 yards and a TD; he ran 3 times for 36 yards. Blake Corum ran 10 times for 36 yards. Donovan Edwards ran 3 times for 12 yards, and caught 2 passes for 41 yards. Colston Loveland caught 3 passes for 44 yards. Semaj Morgan caught 2 passes for 26 yards including the 18 yard TD. Roman Wilson caught one pass for 23 yards. Michigan dominated time of possession by 2 minutes that resulted in 7 more offensive plays.

Defense gave up the early TD, but held Rutgers to 4 first downs including 3 "3 and outs." The Scarlet Knights gained 144 yards with 45 on the ground; they wer 2 of 7 on 3rd and 4th down conversions. Gavin Wimsatt had 4 carries for 25 yards, and hit 5 of 6 passes for 99 yards and a TD. Christian Dremel caught the 69 yard TD pass as Rod Moore missed the angle. Kyle Monangai has 11 carries for 27 yards. Derrick Moore leads the defense with 4 tackles including one for loss.

Special Teams were not good as James Turner missed a 42 yard field goal. Tommy Doman punted once for 39 yard, and had some great kickoffs including one before half fair caught at the 6. Joe Taylor took a pooch kickoff back for 13 yards.

Second Half could be close if we don't adjust, and play well. We need to score off the opening kickoff! Go Blue!
