Observations on the First Half with Maryland, 17-7

Michigan converted two red zones for 10 points; Maryland gained zero red zones, and couldn't gain points off one Wolverine turnover.

Offense played solidly! Shea Patterson was 11 of 18 for 174 yards with a late 22 yard TD to Freshman Ronnie Bell plus an interception. Offense rolled up 14 first downs, 291 yards in total offense in 44 plays while converting 7 of 11 3rd and 4th down conversions. The Wolverines gained an edge of 27 more offensive plays due to a 12 minute time of possession advantage. Karan Higdon gained 90 yards in 19 carries and Ben Mason scored the other TD with 12 yards in 6 carries. Zach Gentry caught 4 passes for 58 yards, Sean McKeon caught 3 for 22 yards, and Nico Collins caught a 51 yarder to set up the first red zone. Grant Perry caught 2 passes for 18 yards, and threw a completion for 12 yards on a reverse to McKeon. Tre Watson has 10 tackles for the Terrapins.

Defense was also solid! The Terrapins were held to a measly 3 first downs, and 42 yards in 17 offensive plays with only 1 of 5 in 3rd down conversions. Tyree Kinnel led the defense with 4 tackles. Michael Dwumfour gained a sack, but left the game in the second quarter with what looks like an achilles heal injury; it could sideline him indefinitely. Khaleke Hudson also gained a sack. Rashan Gary did not dress today.

Special Teams kept Maryland in the game with a 98 yard TD on a kickoff return by Ty Johnson. Quinn Nordin hit a 34 yarder, and Jake Moody hit his last two kickoffs for touchbacks while Will Hart only punted once with a 45 yard touchback. Donovan Peoples-Jones returned a punt for 17 yards, and Ambry Thomas got a 26 yard kickoff return.

2nd Half should be all Michigan! Bring on the Badgers! Go Blue!!!
